HESA collects, and isresponsible for, the database inwhich your HESA Record isstored. HESA isaregistered charity and operates onanot-for-profit basis. HESA uses the HESA Record, including the DLHE survey responses, itself for its own purposes. HESA also shares information from the HESA Record with third parties. Itmay charge other organisations towhom itprovides services and data. HESA’s use ofthe HESA Record may include linking information from ittoother data, asdescribed further below. The HESA Record including DLHE survey responses are used for three broad purposes:

The HESA Record may also beused byother organisations who are also data controllers incommon tohelp carry out public functions that are not connected with education. Such users include the Office for National Statistics and the National Audit Office who may use the information tofulfil their statutory functions ofmeasuring population levels and monitoring public expenditure.
The use ofdata byorganisations under this Purpose 1may include linking information inthe HESA Record toother data asdescribed further below.
The HESA Record isused byHESA toproduce and publish information and statistics. This includes some National Statistics publications (www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/national-statistician/types-of-official-statistics) and online business intelligence and research services. HESA will take precautions toensure that individuals are not identified from any information which isprocessed for Purpose2.

The HESA DLHE Collection Notice isregularly reviewed. The most uptodate version can befound via www.hesa.ac.uk/fpn. Minor updates tothe DLHE Collection Notice (including organisation name changes and clarification ofpreviously specified purposes) may bemade atany time. Major updates (such asanew purpose) will bemade nomore than once per year.
